Few people know that China is a relatively unfree state. Wherever you go, you will be watched by “big brother”, whose main tool is the police.

10: Number

According to official data, 1 billion 442 million people currently live in China. It is not surprising that colossal personnel are required to maintain order. As of 2021, the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China, which is an analogue of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, employs more than 3 million citizens. This structure has exactly 27 offices, each of which is responsible for its own security sector. Thus, the 2nd Directorate is in full charge of the area of economic crimes, and the 27th Directorate is fighting terrorism around the clock. We must not forget about the special “People's Militia” created in the 80s of the last century to protect important government facilities, including the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong in Beijing.

9: Discipline

What word do Chinese police say most often? That's right - discipline. Chinese law enforcement officers are true professionals in their field. They not only fulfill their duties honestly, but also live up to their honorable status. Every Chinese police officer is required, when applying for a job, to master the art of kung fu, as well as the practice of competent speech, the ability to shoot from almost any type of weapon and the ability to psychologically influence his opponent. Each police officer undergoes special courses that allow him to serve for the benefit of his people. The average salary for an MOB employee is approximately 5,000 yuan, which is generally enough for a comfortable stay in the capital of the Middle Kingdom.

8: How to become a police officer?

To join the Chinese police, you need to go through a difficult selection process, in which over 5 million people take part every year. The main condition is the presence of Chinese citizenship. Next, the selection committee pays attention to the education and health of the subject. An advantage for enrollment in the police academy will be existing experience in military service, as well as various recommendations from immediate superiors. After being hired, a long and painstaking study begins, which also includes courses on network security. Chinese police monitor the Internet, check email messages and monitor which sites ordinary Chinese citizens like to spend time on.

7: Equipment

It's probably no secret that the Chinese police have the most advanced technical equipment. The modernization of law enforcement agencies was made possible thanks to the Golden Shield program, designed to filter information entering the country. As part of the re-equipment, the police received modern vehicles, communications equipment and the most innovative materials for conducting various examinations. At the same time, the Chinese authorities for the first time used special glasses in their work, allowing them to detect malicious violators in the crowd. Over the past year, 170,000 people were detained, which is equal to 70% of citizens on the national wanted list. To scan a face, smart glasses only need 100 milliseconds, after which all the necessary information about the person and his offenses from the moment of his first arrest by police appears on the lenses.

6: Fight Crime

Despite their exemplary status, the Chinese police are very harsh in punishing people who cross the line of the law. Everything here is like in GTA, because if you have collected even three stars, a real helicopter will fly out after you! Seriously, control over the lives of people in China is as serious as possible. So, for example, foreigners need to be more careful when posting photos on social networks, and if the police ask you questions and you don’t have documents, it’s a disaster. A fine is only the smallest and most harmless measure of punishment in the PRC. At the moment, the death penalty is still allowed in the state, and executions often take place publicly and in front of large crowds of people.

5: Statistics

China is among the top 10 safest countries in the world. On average, there are only 0.62 intentional homicides per 100,000 inhabitants. For comparison, in Brazil it is 29.5! Strict Chinese legislation plays its role, which has 69 articles, the highest punishment for which is execution. Here are some of them: high treason, organizing armed riots, any form of smuggling, sexual crimes, as well as bribery, desertion, theft and robbery. All this is fraught with execution, from which there is absolutely no protection. Even the head of the state company So Lai, who was convicted of exceeding his official powers and embezzlement of the state budget, was subject to capital punishment.

4: Image

Despite the harshness of the system in which Chinese police officers have to work, they are incredibly concerned about their image. Firstly, they are always neat and well-groomed. It is impossible to see a law enforcement officer in a dirty uniform or unwashed shoes in Beijing. Secondly, they try to be polite and friendly. They are always ready to help and come to the rescue in difficult times, and it doesn’t matter who you are - a resident of the PRC or an ordinary tourist. And finally, even if you are met drunk on the street (of course, if you have documents), there is a high probability that the police will help you get home! Such stories are not uncommon, but this privilege, as you already understand, extends only to conscientious citizens.

3: Robot Cops

The future is just around the corner! Technological progress in China made it possible to launch mechanical law enforcement officers in provincial cities in 2019. Robot police only at first glance look quite harmless: they do not have weapons, and they do not yet know how to neutralize a criminal. The main feature of such smart inventions is a camera capable of transmitting a clear picture in real time in 360-degree format. If the duty officer notices suspicious activity within two minutes, a rapid response squad will arrive on the scene and help restore order in the area assigned to him.

2: Use of illegal substances

China has gone through several stages when the lives of ordinary citizens were dictated by illegal substances. According to the law, the policeman is obliged to carry out preventive measures, but that’s not all! Relatives of a person who uses illegal drugs are required to report this to law enforcement agencies. Otherwise, they will also be responsible, since every Chinese citizen must do everything for the well-being of the nation. Moreover, if the level of substance use begins to increase at the station assigned to a police officer, the police officer himself is subject to sanctions for improper performance of his direct duties.

1: Protection from the state

Absolutely all Chinese police officers are protected by the state. If an employee has worked for 10 years in the police and has reached the age of 50, then he is entitled to a boarding house of 50 percent of his salary. Each subsequent year the benefit amount increases. Additionally, law enforcement officers have benefits for housing, uniforms, and payment for treatment. A police officer in the event of loss of ability to work while on duty, as well as family members in the event of the death of an employee at work, enjoy preferential treatment from the state.
