Overweight people often face difficulties in a variety of life situations. Including the case of air travel.
An overweight person may have difficulty fitting into the seat, or the seat belt may not be fastened. And the neighbors sitting nearby also have to experience inconvenience.
For example, business class is not available for passengers on Dreamliner aircraft owned by Thailand's national airline Thai Airways. This is because in business the length of the seat belt does not exceed 142 cm. If a person has a waist larger than this parameter, then he will be transferred to economy.
Samoa's national airline, Samoa Air, sells tickets based on weight. The higher the weight, the more expensive the flight. It is possible that in this way the carrier motivates people to lose weight, and they themselves claim that the heavier the passenger, the more fuel is needed to transport him.
Hmm. Motivation to lose weight is, of course, good, but there are questions about fuel...)
From time to time, overweight people are asked to pay for an additional place. This is what the American companies United Airlines, American Airlines and the French Air France do.
If, when purchasing a ticket, a passenger indicated his body weight incorrectly, he may be denied a flight at the time of check-in. He will be offered to fly on the next flight if there are two empty seats next to each other on the plane. This is what they do at the US airline Delta Air Lines.
On British Airways aircraft, the passenger must fit comfortably in one seat, and the seat belt must be fastened without lengthening or tightening. If the conditions are not met, you will need to pay for an additional place.
But the airline Flydubai, owned by the UAE, as well as Qatar Airways (Qatar), do not charge any additional money from very fat passengers.
The national Czech company Chech Airlines also tries to treat overweight passengers with understanding and does not require additional payment for excess weight.
Air travel is also quite loyal to large passengers, but each passenger must be responsible for his own comfort and think about his neighbor. Any person of any weight can fly around the territory without worrying that they may not be allowed on board.
There are a number of recommendations that overweight people can use when planning a flight:
- approach the purchase of a ticket responsibly and study the rules of the airline chosen for the flight;
- familiarize yourself with the seating layout in advance;
- it is possible to buy two seats in economy class. And the passenger himself will not feel squeezed and there will be no discomfort for a potential neighbor;
- find out the width of the seats in business class, first class and economy class and choose the best option. It may happen that one place in business can be cheaper than two in economy. And the flight will be more comfortable, with all the privileges of business class.
