Some companies offer many interesting bonuses and benefits for employees to attract good talent. They care about being productive and feeling happy in the workplace. But this doesn't always happen. These Reddit forum users shared things that their employers unfairly called "perks." It turned out that these are not advantages at all, or behind these bonuses there are not very comfortable conditions.

1. We get a free lunch at work. At first I was happy about this opportunity, but then I felt the need to leave the office. I went for a walk, talked to my family, or even went to a restaurant myself. But recently one of the managers came up and asked why I was leaving. He was extremely surprised - according to him, they order us free lunches so that we stay at our jobs during lunch. Ha. I didn’t understand the logic, and explained why there is a normal lunch break. The response I received was a passive-aggressive one: “Okay, do as you want.”

2. We were eligible to receive food stamps. They paid so little that standard government assistance was billed as a “bonus.”

3. I work in a supermarket. As a reward for working in difficult Covid times, for frequent salary delays and stress, we were given... six packs of juice.

4. Our hospital organized a “Funny Socks Day” for us, when we could wear funny, bright or different socks to work. They decided to organize this due to the growing number of cases due to Covid patients.

5. We have organized a “stress room” at work, where you can come, cry and scream if you feel stressed while working. And this is instead of fighting the causes of stress or creating some ways.

6. Free personal protective equipment. This is presented to us as a “bonus”.

7. According to our managers, the 45-minute commute each way is "a great way to prepare for the workday and relieve stress on the road."

8. Our company transferred "withholding taxes" to us as a benefit. In general, by law they are required to do this as an employer.

9. Corporate events. Do you think I want to spend my free time with people from work?

10. Our company emphasizes that it provides us with free uniforms. Or maybe this is the norm?

11. I work remotely, and we don’t give maternity leave. According to the HR manager, “this is a great opportunity because you can look after your child and work at the same time”...

12. We have a pool table at work that can be used during breaks. And what can I play during a break, if at this time I just want to eat?

13. The company indicated that my position has a flexible schedule. When I came to work at 9:30 a.m. on the second day, I was reprimanded. It turns out that a “flexible schedule,” in their opinion, is when an employee works in the office strictly from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but can stay for a couple of hours, showing his “high responsibility.”

14. Our company has introduced “free Friday” - a day when we can come to work in casual clothes. We are a technical company and we do not work directly with clients. Why not abolish uniforms altogether?

15. Our company believes that windows in the office are also a bonus.

16. And we are provided with free parking as a “bonus”. I believe that this should not be some kind of generous gesture from the employer, this is the norm.

17. And they deliver pizza to our office. We pretend that this is cool and feels like a 10 thousand increase.

18. I recently cried at work, and after that management suggested “normalizing crying in the workplace” as a stress-relief measure. Thank you, damn it...

19. Our company has various items and paraphernalia with logos. As a bonus, employees are given $20 to purchase these items. Considering the cheapest item there is $65, not including shipping and taxes...

20. During the interview I asked if the company had any bonus payments for employees. I was told that at the end of the year they provide bonuses based on performance results. Last year I opened an envelope and received a $10 grocery store certificate. I thought, as a new employee, I am not entitled to large bonuses. But this year everything was exactly the same - still the same certificate for 10 dollars. After that I started looking for a new job.

21. In my job description, the fact that I work with children is a bonus. Maybe it's just my profession?

22. Overtime. Yes, it was listed in the job description as a "bonus".

23. Jeans Day. In our company this is considered a bonus.

24. Gym. At the plastics plant where we repeatedly lift 100 kg cast iron molding parts, they opened a free gym for us

25. The hospital gave us branded tennis shoes for Christmas. I don't know when I'll wear them.

26. I had an employer who offered discounted tickets to theme parks, sporting events, concerts, etc. However, the site charged a service fee, and because of this, the final amount was the same as without the discount.

27. And my company gives employees a subscription to stress management apps.

28. In four years of work, my salary was increased only once - by 1.5 dollars.

29. A games room was opened in our office. There are really interesting things in it - table tennis, game consoles. But if someone uses all this during the working day, he is immediately condemned, and they even mention it at meetings. And after a working day, we want nothing more than to just quickly get home.

30. Our store gives a box of scrap goods to employees in lieu of lunch. Thank you for being alive.
