It turned out that men experience breakups more painfully than women (4 photos)
Scientists at Lancaster University conducted the study and published its results in the scientific journal American Journal of Psychiatry.
The researchers initially wanted to identify the most common relationship problems. They provided an anonymous platform where survey participants talked about their problems. Scientists analyzed messages from more than 184 thousand people.
Most often, respondents talked about problems with trust and communication, and the survey revealed an interesting fact: men experience the end of a relationship more acutely than women.
The stereotype of women suffering to the tune of melodrama and sad songs, explained study leader Charlotte Entswill: "Most of what we know about relationship problems comes from studies of people undergoing psychotherapy. This leads to sampling bias - which people are included in who have the time, money and motivation to work through problems with a specialist."
In general, of course, it is strange to divide heartfelt experiences by gender, since the severity of emotional experiences is rarely associated with gender. But since men are often dominated by an educational stereotype about excessive masculinity that “boys don’t cry,” it seems that they do not suffer when a romantic relationship breaks up, or suffer minimally. However, every person, regardless of gender, has the right to feel mental pain and experience it acutely.
