Nicolas Cage - star and original (8 photos)
Nicolas Cage is the nephew of the famous director Francis Ford Coppola, a family connection with whom he, however, carefully hid from the very beginning of his film career. Thus, as Cage himself admitted, he wanted to prove that he was worth something in the world of cinema thanks to his own talents. From this alone it is clear that Nicolas Cage is a great original. And so in everything!
Tastes could not be discussed
Cage has simple tastes in food, but he does not shy away from original dishes. During the filming of Vampire's Kiss, he actually ate a cockroach. True, I didn’t share my opinion about his taste with anyone.
Unusual ideas
Due to an excess of originality in the interpretation of images, Cage’s filming in Michel Gondry’s film “The Green Hornet” was disrupted. Cage planned to play the role of mob villain Benjamin Chudnovsky, who was eventually played by Christoph Waltz. However, an insurmountable obstacle was Cage’s unusual interpretation of the image. The actor portrayed Chudnovsky as a "white Jamaican". Cage even conducted an impromptu audition in a Jamaican accent. And for the appearance of his character, he asked for artificial lips and tattooed hair on his head. It was too much for Gondry.
Gloomy real estate
The same year he was in talks for The Green Hornet, Cage filmed the comic book sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance in Europe. One day, Idris Elba discovered that Cage looked dead tired. The actor explained to the director that he made a trip to the ruins of Castle Dracula to spend the night there - according to Cage, this helped him better feel his character from the dark world.
And in 2007, Cage bought the LaLaurie mansion in New Orleans - the terrifying home of the bloodthirsty killer Madame Delphine LaLaurie. At the time, Cage was planning to write a horror novel and believed that the Bloody Mansion would be a suitable place to work.
Mushrooms with a cat
Cage admitted that in his youth he tried hallucinogenic mushrooms, sharing them with a friend, a cat named Lewis. “He ate them greedily, like valerian,” said the actor. He stated that at these moments he considered Lewis his friend and almost a brother in mind.
For the sake of humanity
Cage has done a lot to make the world a better place by donating money and time to humanitarian causes.
He gave Amnesty International $2 million to help child soldiers, and as a result of this and his other work on behalf of people, he received a United Nations Humanitarian Award.
When he starred in Baron of Arms, the 2005 drama about an arms dealer, he said his main goal was to raise awareness of the need to control the international arms trade.
As yourself
Perhaps Nicolas Cage was born to play one character - himself. Of course, he's been doing this all his life, but only now is he getting the chance to do it on screen. In the film “The Unbearable Weight of Enormous Talent,” Cage really plays himself, without hiding his shortcomings and problems in his career and personal life. Along the way, he will have to save his wife and daughter from the clutches of a drug lord (Pedro Pascal). The film, which was delayed by the pandemic, will star Tiffany Haddish, Neil Patrick Harris and Sharon Horgan. It will be released in 2022.
Cage's grave
Cage bought more than just an ominous mansion in New Orleans. In one of the city's cemeteries there is a three-meter-high stone pyramid, decorated with the saying “Omnia Ab Uno” (“All from one”). This is the future grave of Nicolas Cage. According to rumors, the actor, who is inclined to mysticism, hopes that in the pyramid he will be able to regenerate his immortal self.
