Cliches from action movies about weapons that have nothing to do with reality (16 photos)

Every year the cinema is replenished with new films in the action genre. All of them, as a rule, are filled with the same cliches and stereotypes about weapons and other things related to them.

So, what popular myths have become firmly entrenched in the public thanks to film makers?

For a long time now, weapons have technically developed so much that they do not require manual cocking of the hammer. This action was actively used in revolvers during the Wild West, which is why cowboys do it in Westerns. But now the erected trigger with a loaded pistol will simply “spit out” the cartridge.

However, in modern films, the main characters continue to do this with excessive pathos.

There are many misconceptions about silencers, which make weapons in movies almost whisper. In fact, they remove sparks and in some cases increase the accuracy of fire. The sound of a shot is reduced by a maximum of 20-30 decibels, and only in open areas (the volume level of a shot without a silencer is approximately 150-180 decibels). Indoors, the gunfire will also be clearly audible.

Let's move on to explosions. Often the characters set fire to gasoline, pathetically throwing a cigarette to create a big “boom.” But this popular trick from movies doesn’t work in reality.

The temperature of a smoldering cigarette is about 700 °C, and gasoline ignites at 246 °C, but the cigarette butt is much “cooler” than the cigarette that is smoked. The temperature of a cigarette thrown on the ground is not enough to ignite gasoline vapors, especially in an open space. Scientists tried to test this experimentally, but out of 4,500 attempts, not one was successful.

The same applies to shooting at propane tanks, car gas tanks and fuel barrels. A fire is most likely to occur, while too many conditions must be met for an explosion to occur.

C4 will not detonate from a shot either. Today it is one of the most stable explosives. You can blow it up by throwing it into a fire, but this will take a lot of time, since C4 burns quite slowly.

In action movies, especially from the 80s and 90s, enemies are blown apart by grenade explosions. All this is accompanied by the ignition of everything and everyone around. But grenades work differently, since their goal is to incapacitate the enemy with flying fragments and shrapnel. You can fly up from a grenade, but only if you lie on it. True, after this you will no longer be able to get up.

By the way, it’s also unlikely that you’ll be able to pull the pin out with your teeth, unless you’re a Bond villain with iron jaws. Otherwise, you may be left without teeth.

Of course, one cannot ignore the pathetic single shot, from which the main villain always dies immediately, even if the bullet hits the stomach. At least that's how it used to be. In modern films, more shots are needed to eliminate villains, just like in life.

True, in most cases the injuries are not fatal. There are plenty of videos online where people were hit with half a clip of a clip from the police and either continued to walk or fell to the ground, but remained conscious.

But only timely medical assistance will help you survive.

And finally, about mass shootings, when machine gunners rain lead on each other. It looks impressive, of course, but in life practicality comes first.

Shooters usually fire single shots, since a 30-round magazine fired by an automatic burst runs out in a maximum of 4 seconds. But this is only if hitting the target is guaranteed.

The machine gunner can carry up to 4 pouches, which can hold 8 magazines of 30 rounds each. When fire is fired at the enemy in bursts, it serves more to intimidate the enemy with the threat of defeat, since the minimum number of shots, due to the scattering, hit the target.
