Again about our little brothers... 
Today is my dog’s birthday - the shaggy one is exactly nine years old. Let this “trick” be a congratulation for him. For a dog, nine years is already a respectable age, over fifty, if translated into human terms. Let me introduce - his name is Hume - in honor of the English philosopher David Hume. Breed: Setter Gordon (Scottish), parents are breed champions. 
I have happily lived most of my life in the belief that a dog has no place in an urban environment. When I was a child, we once had a hamster, but he ran away. And when my children, growing up, began to pester me about “let’s get a cat or a dog,” I categorically opposed.
In vain, as it now turns out.
When my eldest daughter insisted on a dog, my condition became “ok, just let it be a small and short-haired dog.” And indeed, for some time he was small and short-haired. 
At first, there was a process of getting used to the puppy at home. And he got used to his new place of residence. The dog was born on a specialized dog farm at the Timiryazev Academy, on the border of the Tver and Yaroslavl provinces. This is a hunting breed; setters are bred to hunt forest birds. In the photo he is jumping after a pigeon - instincts. 
Setters are non-aggressive, affectionate, intelligent and very friendly. But they are willful and active - there is a saying among hunters - “a good setter is a tired setter.” He needs to run five to seven kilometers a day, then in the evening he is calm. Otherwise, he will tug at you and demand attention. 
Who remembers this book and the film based on it? White Beam is also a Setter-Gordon, only the color is different. Black and red ones are called Scottish Setters, and black and white ones are called English Setters. 
And he was bored at home alone. Now I’ve settled down, of course, but at first you start to gape, and you have to take another pair of shoes to the trash heap... 
Here are his exercises. But it’s impossible to be seriously angry with him - he’s always so happy when you come home from work. 
My favorite sofa - once, while still a one-year-old puppy, Yum managed to almost drag this sofa with his teeth from the living room to the hallway - it got stuck in the door, otherwise he would have dragged it. He is generally strong - it is difficult to keep him on a leash if he rushes after a pigeon or a cat. 
The daughter got married, had her own children - in the photo the wife is walking with her grandson - the little owner. 
And this is the little owner playing - not everyone has such wonderful toys in childhood - you can clean the dog with a vacuum cleaner, pull the dog by the ears. I even tried to ride a horse, but was only licked. 
My dog and I also have our own games - the main thing here is who can growl more terribly. 
Here he is already playing himself - jumping for apples at the dacha. He loves apples - and straight from the tree. 
When children grow up and have their own home, the house becomes empty. But if there is a dog, you don’t notice it. You don’t notice problems at work because you know that they are waiting for you and loving you. I have never been seriously ill in the last nine years - because there will be no one to walk the dog. And the habit itself of walking three to five kilometers every day, in any weather, forces you to keep yourself in good shape.
Now I can’t even imagine how I could live without a dog before. Dog therapy is the best way to ignore stress and troubles. 
It's just a pity that dogs have a shorter life than humans...
