The website of the “Historical Homes of America” project contains perhaps the most beautiful old houses in the USA. Almost all of them are up for sale, although looking at the price tags makes you want to cry. The only consolation is the thought that they are probably crawling with ghosts, and there are a couple of damned artifacts lying around in the attic...

Bishop's Palace, also known as Gresham Castle, is a luxurious Victorian-style home located in the historic East End neighborhood of Galveston, Texas. The house was built between 1887 and 1893 by Galveston architect Nicholas J. Clayton for lawyer and politician Walter Gresham, his wife Josephine and their nine children. In 1923, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Galveston purchased the house and, located across the street from Sacred Heart Church, it served as the residence of Bishop Christopher E. Byrne.
