What could be better than spending an evening with family, friends and a board game where you have to fight for world domination? Well, for example, play your favorite board game, the playing field and all the other pieces for which you made yourself.
This post will focus on the classic “Risk” strategy. It is played on a board depicting a political map of the world. Players control armies, trying to take over other players' territories and ultimately become the sole ruler of the world.
The game has been around since 1959. Since then, it has turned into one of the most popular, even cult “board games”.
And someone loves playing it so much with the whole family that they decided to go crazy and make a custom version for themselves, with a huge plywood playing field and corresponding figures of soldiers and tanks.
See how this grandiose project was carried out.
First, two buckets of plastic soldiers were purchased from Amazon. 6 armies of 50 units (soldiers) each are required, that is, 300 soldiers.
There were also tanks there. It was decided to use 8 tanks per army. Each tank counts as 5 units.
For added stability, the soldiers were glued to poker chips. So that they certainly don’t fall and create confusion on the playing field.
In total, 300 soldiers were glued to the poker chips. It took a very long time, but wait until you see the end result.
Long and painstaking work, but there’s nowhere to go.
One after another, one after another... all 300 of them. The main thing is to find super strong glue.
Then all the tanks were divided between the armies.
And the stage of painting the armies began. We spray painted it in six different colors.
This silver army looks good!
She is opposed by a golden army, which also looks very good.
The Silver Army and Black Army are finally ready.
A little more coloring. Painting 300 soldiers and 40 tanks can take a long time.
And this is an army of soft blue color. My daughter chose the color.
The gold, silver and black armies are ready and built. Now they need the world to conquer.
For the playing field, a sheet of plywood measuring 4 x 8 feet (1.2 x 2.4 m) was taken.
So that it could be folded and put away for storage, the sheet was cut in the middle and fastened with loops.
Then the projector came in very handy. It was used to get an accurate map of the world by placing it on the playing field.
The projected map was traced with a pencil along all the contours of the countries.
The ocean takes up a lot of space on the map, so it was decided to add some cute and cool drawings to such places. They really brought the map to life!
Of course, there must be a pirate ship on the open ocean.
The borders of the countries are marked with a thick black line.
Once the borders were ready, it was time to paint the countries with different colors. We need blue, yellow, green, red, brown and black. (Australia is purple, so you can just mix red and blue.)
You will also need polycrylate (apply several layers) to protect the playing field after painting.
It’s also a slow process, but very exciting.
Things are going well.
Slowly but surely.
This gaming table turned out amazing!
The whole family was involved in creating this amazing Risk Command Post. Everyone contributed.
Every good map needs a compass!
Since the playing field is quite large, it was necessary to make several pushers for the soldiers and tanks. It turned out great.
The names of the countries are written with permanent marker.
So, the field is ready, it's time to place armies on it.
And begin to strive for world domination.
It's time to prepare for your very first battle in "Risk" on a hand-made playing field!
The troops stood up to defend their territories.
It looks like it will be a brutal world war for total domination! But how amazing it looks...
Silver Army, tanks are coming at you, you have no chance!
This is the confrontation that will decide the outcome of the battle.
