Quite often, people, regardless of religion and nation, are very similar. However, you can still come across things that are familiar to residents of different countries, but may seem strange to us, to put it mildly.





And here are just a few examples of them.

In 1969, Gloria Diaz, a resident of the Philippines, became Miss Universe. In an interview, she was very surprised when asked whether in her country everyone really eats with their hands. And all because it is (still) customary there to eat solid food with your hands. Of course, the exception is soups.



In many countries, mothers will not go outside with their baby if the weather outside is bad. But not in Norway, where a child is left alone in a stroller in the garden of his house, even in rain and snow. And all because of the parents’ beliefs that this is the only way their child can grow up healthy.





In most countries, the sale of alcohol is legal from the age of 18, but not in all. For example, in Germany you can purchase wine and beer from the age of 16, and in Georgia from the same age you can purchase alcoholic beverages of any strength.



But in Japan there are public diagnostic toilets, which, unfortunately, can only be found there. What is their feature? After urinating, you can get a general report about your health. What's most important is absolutely free. Apparently, in this country they care more about the health of citizens than anywhere else.



In most countries, people try to enclose their private property with fences, but in Canada, where installing one is considered bad manners. True, it’s unpleasant to walk there. It is considered correct to have a barbecue in the evenings and say hello to neighbors, and to go for a walk only with dogs.



Coca-Cola is drunk all over the world, but not everyone will like one of the Chinese variations. It’s unlikely that you would like the popular boiled drink with lemon and ginger there.

Walking the streets barefoot is quite strange, but not in New Zealand, where the climate is quite pleasant and there are no dangerous insects. Despite the fact that this is a civilized country, you can often find adults and schoolchildren there without shoes, and no one will pay attention to this fact. And it doesn’t matter whether you are wandering without shoes in the park or in the supermarket.



The holiday of Holy Easter is celebrated by Christians quite canonically, but in Poland, in addition to it, there is a very strange tradition. It is there that groups of boys, during celebrations, walk through the countryside, where they pour water on the girls and lightly beat them with sticks. At the same time, the latter should also thank for this.



The fact that Americans do not take off their shoes at home is not a Hollywood convention at all, but a very strange fact. They can actually flop down on the bed in it because they think that their streets are quite clean. But the fact remains that the sole cannot be called clean. It is not surprising that many immigrants cannot get used to this, and among the Japanese this habit is completely terrifying.



Well, let's end with the very confusing units of measurement in the UK, where, for example, milk and beer are sold in pints, and whiskey and cola in liters, or people indicate their weight in kilograms and height in feet. It will be very difficult to figure it out!
