Comparison of fairy-tale characters in Disney cartoons and Soviet animation (16 photos)
Quite often, the same plots become the basis for different works of art. The best example is cartoons based on classic fairy tales. Let's see how Soviet and American animators showed famous fairy-tale characters.
Cinderella
Despite the different drawings, Cinderellas are quite similar. The Disney cartoon was released in 1949, and the Soviet one in 1979. So the foreign Cinderella is 30 years older.
Fairy Godmother
While the main characters are quite similar, fairies in cartoons are completely different. Disney created a kind and cozy aunt, while Soyuzmultfilm created the image of a delicate and fragile sorceress. Let's move on to the next heroes of this tale.
Beautiful Prince
Stepmother and sisters
Agree, there are similarities here too, although the Disney prince’s hair is much shorter, and in the Soviet version the stepmother became more curvy, and the sisters became more dissimilar.
Ariel and the Little Mermaid
Here the situation is the opposite of “Cinderella”: the Soviet cartoon appeared in 1968, and the Disney one in 1989. The heroines turned out to be completely different both in appearance and in character: the Soviet Little Mermaid is more melancholy and thoughtful, while Ariel has a perky disposition.
The Prince Saved by the Little Mermaid
The Disney prince, like Ariel, has a name, and his name is Eric.
Ursula and the Sea Witch
In the Disney cartoon, Ursula will appear in yet another image as the girl Vanessa, the rival of the Little Mermaid. In the Soviet cartoon, the girl who found a poor drowning man and became his bride was in no way connected with the sea witch. And overall she was quite nice.

Wedding
I would, of course, like to compare not only the prince’s wedding with Vanessa, but also with the Little Mermaid, but... We all know that this fairy tale has a happy ending only in Disney. Soyuzmultfilm followed Hans Christian Andersen's original and turned the Little Mermaid into sea foam.
Pinocchio and Pinocchio
The two big-nosed wooden guys are so similar, and it’s not surprising, because “The Golden Key, or the Adventures of Pinocchio” by Alexei Tolstoy is a literary adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s fairy tale “The Adventures of Pinocchio. The history of a wooden doll." The Disney cartoon appeared in 1940, the Soviet one in 1959.
Cricket
And in the story about Pinocchio there is the Blue Fairy (or the Blue Fairy in some translations). Can we compare her with our Malvina?

Three piglets
Disney's The Three Little Pigs appeared in 1933. By the way, pay attention to the Easter egg: a picture on the wall with the caption “Father”. The Soviet puppet cartoon was released in 1974.
Gray wolf
Do you remember the piglets' names? That's right, Nif-Nif, Naf-Naf and Nuf-Nuf. But not in the Soviet version. The cartoon from TO "Ekran" was called "Bim, Bam, Bom and the Wolf."
