The natural world continues to amaze people. To date, a huge number of unusual and even strange plants have been found and bred. We have included ten of them in our selection.
Three-meter succulents, underground lantern mushrooms and orchids that look like anything but orchids. Nature sarcastically rubs her hands: “Well, how do you like it, man?” And the man continues to blink his eyes in surprise.
Bison grass or blue gram
Grows in the prairies of North America. Looks like ordinary grass with spikelets. But at the end of its flowering, the blue gram spikelets curl up, forming a charming sun.
Thismia kobensis or magic lantern
This plant was considered extinct, but recently it was rediscovered by Japanese botanists. The peculiarity of these plants is that they live underground, and their bright flowers come to the surface. Outwardly, they resemble a cross between mushrooms and glowing lanterns.
Kilimanjara ragus
Essentially, it is a giant three-meter succulent.
Italian orchis
No, this is not photoshop. The flowers of these orchids really look like naked men in hats.
Dracula simia or ape-like Dracula
This plant is also called monkey orchid. The appearance fully explains where the name came from.
Sublime psychotria or psycholoria ellata
A flower resembling giant scarlet lips.
Sundew
Predatory carnivorous flower. Its inflorescences secrete droplets of mucus that look like dew. With these droplets the flower attracts prey insects.
Raulia or vegetable sheep
This plant resembles neither a cloud nor a sheep (when viewed from afar). This plant got its name for this. Lives in New Zealand.
Snapdragon
The plant itself does not look particularly unusual, but its dry achene is quite creepy.
Trichosanth
Belongs to the genus of herbaceous vines. They are distinguished by amazing flowers with curls at the ends.
Bonus: ascidians
These surprised faces are ascidians. They live on the bottom of the sea and, as it turns out, they are closer to animals than to plants.
