We're sure you've been haunted by this feeling for a long time, and it's quite true - the horror film genre is officially the main testing ground for the trashiest ideas in cinema.
From the very first years of cinema, it was horror that took into its ranks the most extravagant concepts from the most extravagant authors. No other film category can boast so many films whose tagline should be "What the hell is going on here?"
According to the rules in horror films, the heroes must face some kind of evil or curse - and this is where many creators have a blast! But if in the works of the same Stephen King we only imagine in our heads what this or that absurdity looks like, then in the film adaptations we... see it. Why does an idea that is crazy even in words become even crazier on the screen?
In this list of crazy horror films, we honestly tried not to delve into the abyss of category B (and even C) films, but in some places nothing came of it. After all, the geniuses of the genre live there. And also, obviously, most of these horror films have a comedic slant - this is also worth remembering.
Christina (1983)
Let's start with the film adaptation of Stephen King's novel, the main evil in which was a 1958 Plymouth Fury called "Christine". But this is not just a car - it is a jealous killer who does not intend to share its current owner with anyone. By the way, all the previous ones died for some mystical reason.
The Fly (1986)
Scientist Seth Brundle is working on teleporting living beings and objects, but due to an error during one of his experiments, he began to turn into a fly. However, not small and harmless, but humanoid and created in the characteristic (that is, nightmarish) style of films of the 80s.
Despite the crazy idea, the film even won an Oscar, but, of course, not for the script, but for the makeup.
Snowman (1997)
New Year's trash, in which, due to the accident of a government van with secret chemical developments, the genetic code of a certain dangerous criminal is transferred to... yes, you heard correctly, to a snowman. He comes to life, but does not start wishing people a Merry Christmas and does not even throw snowballs at them. The snowman begins to wet those around him, so to speak. And he also gives out catchphrases!
Fridge (1991)
A family moves into a new apartment, but people do not yet know that something terrible awaits them in it. Namely the refrigerator. In all seriousness.
He turns out to be the door to hell and instead of peacefully storing food, he prefers to devour his masters. And not because they decided to eat at night, but just like that.
Little Red Dress (2018)
If you suddenly thought that strange ideas with cursed villainous things were left to the movies of the last century, then we have bad news for you. Here we have a killer dress that looks great on its owner, but that’s its only plus.
The downside is that it can quickly take anyone to the grave.
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (1978)
The inhabitants of the Earth are in panic! The most ordinary tomatoes rebelled and decided to destroy humanity. It sounds like a synopsis for an episode of an animated series, but the rise of the killer tomatoes is depicted in a feature-length film. The death toll was already going through the roof when people discovered that tomatoes (spoiler alert, you'll probably want to watch this movie) are vulnerable to a pop song called "Puberty Love." With its help, humanity is coping with the tomato disaster.
If only Covid could be dealt with with a boring pop hit.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1987)
This is not a drill, the Earth is under attack again! This time, aliens became a threat to ordinary people. It just so happens that the aliens feed on human bodies, and they themselves look like clowns. Scary clowns, made in the already familiar style of the 80s!
Elevator (1983)
So, what else can universal evil inhabit? There was a snowman, there was a refrigerator, there was a dress. Oh, that's right. Passenger elevator! Indeed, the elevator in one of the skyscrapers of the Dutch company Ikarus turned out to be a thinking and cruel creature.
An unusual case from the practice of an elevator operator called to solve a problem.
Videodrome (1982)
A TV producer comes across a signal from an unknown channel, which seems to be broadcasting from nowhere. As the film progresses, it turns out that watching the mysterious channel is dangerous, but not only for the brain, but also for the human body - it is literally capable of decomposing flesh, which is what happens to some of the characters in Videodrome.
Sheena (2010)
We started with a film about a killer car, and we will end with its younger relative. Tire. Which, of course, has the consciousness and desire to kill, and what is most terrible - the ability to kill.
