Mysteries of the North Pole that will never be solved (9 photos)
The North Pole is one of the most mysterious places on Earth. Snow-white ice, deep abysses and crystal clear lakes hide many secrets that still cannot be solved.
Some of these secrets evoke eerie sensations and fear of the unknown. Today we will learn the secrets of the North Pole that will never be solved
Strange holes
The Arctic is an amazing place that is being monitored by scientists as the climate and landscape change rapidly. Glaciers are melting, causing mysterious holes to appear in the ice. In photographs released by NASA, these holes appear as spots on the surface of the ice. Scientists believe that rapid melting of glaciers may be one of the reasons for the formation of these holes, but there is no exact answer yet. Despite interesting guesses, the public cannot say for sure what is shown in the photographs, and only further research can answer this mystery.
Lightning
Lightning is a phenomenon that occurs in the atmosphere as a result of instability when warm, moist air collides with cold, dry air. However, in some parts of the world, including areas near the North Pole, lightning is much less common because there is usually a lack of warm air. Therefore, when many lightning strikes were recorded at a distance of 500 kilometers from the North Pole, scientists were amazed by this phenomenon. This may be due to climate change in the Arctic causing the unusual lightning pattern, although the exact cause remains a mystery. This is just another example that a lot of unusual things are happening in the Arctic, and that changes in climate can lead to unexpected consequences
Monster of Lake Iliamna
Lake Iliamna is a large lake located in the northern spurs of the Aleutian Range in the state of Alaska, USA. It is the largest lake in the state and the third largest in the United States. Locals tell stories of a supposed lake monster that some believe is an undocumented population of white sturgeon, the northernmost on the planet. There are also speculations that it could be a Pacific polar shark. In 2012, a video posted on YouTube showed a small Arctic shark in Lake Iliamna, confirming this hunch. In 2017, the Anchorage Daily News announced a prize of one hundred thousand dollars to anyone who could provide irrefutable evidence of the existence of monsters.
Mysterious islands
In 2021, a team of researchers discovered a small rocky island off the North Coast of Greenland that was previously uncharted. This island was a contender for the title of the northernmost landmass on Earth. However, mysterious phenomena have been occurring in this region for several decades. Several small islands appeared in the northern part of Cape Morris Jesup and then simply disappeared. Some scientists believe that these may be rocky shores that appear on the surface due to ice, but no one can accurately determine where they come from and where they disappear.
Levanevsky's flight
On August 12, 1937, a DB-A aircraft with a crew of six under the command of Captain Levanevsky began its long-distance flight from Moscow to the United States via the North Pole. Radio communication with the crew was interrupted the next day, August 13, at 17:58 Moscow time, after flying over the North Pole, when the plane encountered adverse weather conditions and its right engine failed.
The Soviet government financed the search for the missing plane twice, in 1937 and 1938. The planes were purchased in the USA, and the search took place under the command of a Canadian pilot who made a significant contribution to the exploration of Antarctica, Herbert Hollick Kenyon. American aviator and aircraft tester Jimmy Mattern also took part in the search, flying in a Lockheed Model 12 from California. Once Levanevsky saved him himself. After unsuccessful attempts, all crew members were declared missing.
Alaska Triangle
You've probably heard of the Bermuda Triangle, but have you ever heard of the Alaskan Triangle? This phenomenon is so interesting that the Travel Channel even made a television series about it, in which experts and eyewitnesses try to uncover the secrets of the Alaska Triangle. This remote area has been the site of alien abductions, Bigfoot sightings, paranormal activity, and plane disappearances. In general, the Alaska Triangle is very similar to the Bermuda Triangle, but there are more mountains and more craziness. The triangle is made up of three cities: Anchorage in the south, Juneau in the southeast, and Utqiagvik (formerly Barrow) in the north. Inside the triangle there are harsh and impassable places, like almost all of Alaska. It is an incredibly vast expanse of forests, rugged mountain peaks, alpine lakes and wildlife. No wonder people go missing here. But the huge number of them is surprising. In addition, many disappear without a trace. Since 1988, more than 16 thousand people have disappeared in the area, including plane passengers, local residents and tourists. The number of missing persons per thousand people in this area is more than twice the national average, and the number of people who are never found is even higher. The numbers don't lie, and they indicate that there is something strange and unusual going on here, and people aren't just getting lost in the mountains.
The Disappearance of Hale Boggs
In 1972, Louisiana Congressman Hale Boggs, Alaska Congressman Nick Begich and his 37-year-old assistant Russell Brown, as well as pilot Don Jonze, took off on a Cessna 310 motor plane. The trip to Alaska was connected with the upcoming elections. All four disappeared on the way between the cities of Anchorage and Juneau. Following the disappearance, the largest search and rescue operation in US history at that time began. 40 military and 50 civil aircraft took part in it. The search area was 842 thousand square kilometers, more than 3,600 hours were spent. After 39 days the search was stopped. Nothing could be found. After this incident, Congress passed a law requiring the installation of emergency locator transmitters on all US civil aircraft. Since then, many theories have arisen regarding the circumstances surrounding Hale's disappearance.
