What is this strange, unpronounceable name? It turns out that this is the name of the highest point in the Eastern Caucasus, and it is located in the Chechen Republic. For the first time, climbers from Chechnya conquered it just three years ago. And they were shocked. What - read on.

Fact or fable

Chechen old-timers, telling legends, also talked about how the Mongols, even before the conquest of Rus', tried to conquer the Caucasus. But the people of this region are brave, determined, courageous and proud. The Mongol military leaders Subedei, Mengu and Sartak (in the Chechen version Subed, Menga and Sart) approached the mountain, but it was not to be. The Chechens planned to attack the Mongols, making sudden rapid descents. They were ready to build fortifications at the very top, to adapt to the mountain climate: at the top there is less oxygen and it is more difficult to breathe because they are not used to it.

The Caucasus Mountains do not tolerate the weak

The first detachment of mountaineers died: an avalanche buried all 12 people. Then the Chechens sent a second detachment, and it was they who reached the top. Other brave warriors followed their example and literally followed in their footsteps. So they began to raid the Mongols, running down at night and throwing stones at them. The siege lasted for a month. With the first snow, the enemies retreated, going south. This went on for no less than 12 years. The Mongols were able to take possession of the peak only when the mountaineers ran out of water and provisions.

Still true

Caucasus region

One might think that this is a beautiful fairy tale, on the images of brave warriors of which young people have been brought up for centuries. But there are facts confirming these historical events. Firstly, an article in the magazine “Around the World” for 1967. It described how, while climbing a mountain at an altitude of approximately 3000 meters, a group of climbers found spears, arrows and those who once used them in the ice: everything indicated that people had died in the battle. Secondly, there is evidence of these events in the literature. There are memories of one Franciscan monk, who was an eyewitness to those attempts of nomads to climb the mountain.

What else is interesting about this mountain?

There are mountains higher in the world than this. For example, Elbrus and Kazbek are over 5000 meters above sea level. But Tebulosmta Peak is almost 4500, to be precise, 4492 meters, and it is also covered with glaciers. Entire massifs of rock crystal are hidden under the ice crust.

Rock crystal in nature

Today there is great interest in Mount Tuloi-lam, Dakokh-korta, Bashloam, as it is also called. Republican television has almost finished filming the film “Contemplating the Wind.”
