Interesting facts about the filming of the movie "Back to the Future" that many people don't know about (16 photos)
One of the best time travel films of all time is Robert Zemeckis's Back to the Future. In just two years, the film will turn 40 years old, and interest in it still does not fade.
And today I would like to dive into the filming process of this film, show interesting footage from the filming, and also tell some interesting facts about the film "Back to the Future". And I’ll immediately note that we will only talk about the first part of the film.
1. The role of Marty was originally intended for Michael Jay Fox, but due to workload in the filming of the series “Family Ties,” he was unable to take part.
Then actor Eric Stoltz was cast in the role of Marty, who spent three weeks on the set. A lot of scenes had already been filmed with him (almost half), but in the end Zemeckis realized that Stoltz was in no way suitable for this role.
Eric took the role too seriously and even demanded to call him Marty outside of filming. Zemeckis noted that Stoltz is a good actor, but he cannot give exactly the character of Marty that is required.
As a result, Zemeckis decided to try again to negotiate with Muckle Jay Fox, after which he agreed. The creators of the series "Family Ties" agreed to let Fox go to filming, but only on the condition that this would not affect the filming of the series "Family Ties." As a result of this, the actor had to work on two fronts, and his sleep time did not exceed 2 hours a day. But it was still worth it.
2. Lorraine from the past calls Marty "Calvin Klein" because she read this on his underpants. In Europe at that time, few people knew about this brand, so Pierre Cardin sounds in the French dub, and Levi Strauss in the German dub.
3. In many American films, telephone numbers begin with the numbers 555. The film "Back to the Future" was no exception. The thing is that this code does not exist in the USA. It is used only in films so that no one calls these numbers and does not bother ordinary people whose number matches the number indicated in the film.
4. Actor Michael J. Fox actually performed and played the song "Johnny B. Goode" on guitar. The actor learned this song on his own to make the scene look alive. Therefore, what we see on the screen is a real performance.
5. Then-US President Ronald Reagan liked the film so much that he even mentioned it in his 1986 address, saying: “And as they said in Back to the Future, “Where we go, we won’t need roads.” Let me remind you that one of the scenes in the film is dedicated specifically to Ronald Reagan.
6. The Delorean DMC-12 did not immediately become a time machine. According to the original idea, a laser machine was supposed to serve as a time machine, and then it was replaced by a refrigerator.
But in the end, the refrigerator was abandoned because Zemeckis did not want children to climb into refrigerators to go back in time.
The last option was a van, which was later replaced by a passenger car. By the way, it is from this van that the Delorean initially leaves.
7. The selection of an actress for the role of Jennifer was accompanied by some problems. The film required an actress who would be shorter or at least the same height as Michael J. Fox, whose height was only 164 centimeters. Therefore, the vast majority of candidates were rejected only because they were tall compared to the actor.
8. Due to the fact that after the release of the first part of the film, Robert Zemeckis began filming Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the shooting of the second and third parts had to be greatly postponed. But the second and third parts were filmed simultaneously.
9. In the first part of the film, the role of Jennifer was played by actress Claudia Wells. But due to her mother getting sick with cancer, she refused to take part in the filming of the sequel in order to spend more time with her mother. As a result, in the second and third parts the role of Jennifer was played by actress Elisabeth Shue. It is noteworthy that many viewers did not even notice the substitution.
10. Initially, Robert Zemeckis brought the script to the Disney studio, but they refused to make a film based on it because they did not like the idea of a mother falling in love with her own son.
11. Remember that man with glasses who didn't like the song "The Power of Love" performed by Marty McFly and his band at a school audition because it was too loud? This is Huey Lewis, who is the author and performer of this composition. An interesting Easter egg that many have not noticed.
12. In addition to changing the future for his family, Marty also changed the name for the shopping center. Before going back in time, the shopping center was called "Two Pines" (Twin Pines). But when he went back in time to the Peabody farm, he accidentally knocked down one growing pine tree, and when he returned back, the shopping center was already called "Lone Pine".
