15 stories about misconduct for which you should be fired immediately (16 photos)
You may or may not be very lucky with work. And then, instead of a great team, wonderful colleagues and a cool boss, you may encounter the most disgusting colleagues in the world, lousy working conditions and management who don’t give a damn about anything. Here are some stories shared by AskReddit users in the thread "Have you ever seen situations at work that should have gotten someone fired outright?"
1.
“I once cleaned the office of one company (I came 2 times a week), and, accordingly, I had a key. I open the door - and there one of the bosses laid out the secretary right on the table, her legs in the air, his pants pulled down, and his buttocks wrinkled like walnuts. They saw me and were horrified. I went out, waited and came back after they left. The office was immaculately cleaned, they cleaned it for me!”

“The guy was found with a loaded gun stolen from the sheriff's locker. Clearly some kind of criminal. He told us different stories several times here, but it felt like he had some kind of hairy paw on top, because he had already been given five days off... It’s all strange.”
3.
“I worked in a hardware store. Saw a guy take an ax and chop his hand to get injured and watch England play football in a friendly match. The only time I was ready to bully someone and survive at work. But I really didn't want to work with a psycho in a building full of potential weapons. He did not return to work from sick leave. I think he was fired."

“A colleague jokingly threw a box at my chest, quite hard, and I fell. He begged not to tell anyone. The guy was an eccentric - he talked about how he burned insects and started fires. In general, strange. Later he had some more troubles (due to crude jokes about sex) and in the end he moved to another store. This was about ten years ago.
And now it’s the beginning of 2023, my store has undergone a major renovation and this guy (let’s call him John) suddenly arrives as one of the managers with a team of workers to help us. I was surprised that he was still working in our company, let alone in a leadership position. We said hello a couple of times, but didn't interact much as he was working on a remodeling project at the other end of the store.
During this time, the relationship between the repair team and our store team was tense. Our pallet jack was stolen, other necessary things went missing, etc. It has already reached the point of mutual hatred. Then I didn't see John for several weeks and noticed that there was a new manager on the maintenance team. And our relationship with them suddenly began to improve.
Out of curiosity, I asked one of the guys on the crew where John was and he said, "Oh, you don't know? He got demoted for trying to create problems between our crews. He told us to steal your pallet jack and tried to pit people against each other."

“When I was in high school, I worked at a Dairy Queen. One Saturday I was at an opening and the assistant manager opens the doors, lets us in and says, "Guys, I'm really hungover right now, so I need to sleep. Wake me up if you need me." And he goes to bed in a room with washing machines (we washed all the uniforms on site because they were all covered in ice cream). It was a very long day, but she was a great manager and we didn't say anything to the owner."
6.
“I worked in a boarding school for teenagers with behavioral problems. And there is one employee there who should not work with children, and this was clear on the second day of my work. He's almost 50, but acts like a 15-year-old. He gets angry with the children and swears constantly. He grappled with some teenager and started strangling him! We separated them, and he began to get angry with me for not allowing a 14-year-old to be beaten. I only worked there for 3 months, and other employees told me that this had happened more than once between this man and the children. And he still has a job because he's best friends with two bosses."
7.
“The girl who works for us hit another employee in the face several times right at her workplace. The girl who was hit quit. The one who dealt the blows still works there to this day. By the way, there is even a video of the incident that she herself sent to employers. She's definitely blackmailing the owner of the company about something. That's the only logical reason why he doesn't fire her."

“I worked in a dairy factory. Paired with a man who was a little crazy. We had to take milk cartons from the conveyor belt and place them on pallets. At one point, he said “it’s time for a break” and slammed the blade used to open boxes onto the conveyor belt. The conveyor belt was completely destroyed, and after that the machine was under maintenance for two days.”
9.
“I worked at McDonald's. I watched as one kitchen employee sneezed into her hands, and then calmly continued preparing the roll and calmly sent it out for delivery. I threw it in the trash before it reached the order picking staff.”
10.
“I work nights at a hotel. One guy was hired as a security guard for us, and in the very first days he was found sleeping on the job. The first time he was found by an employee. We told the manager and nothing happened. The second time, the manager himself found him sleeping in a storage room in a wheelchair. He was sent home, but not fired.”

“A nurse I worked with left drugs (intended to relieve pain in terminal patients) in the room of a recovering drug addict. This recovering patient was the one who came into the hall and handed me the pills, saying, “These were meant for someone else.” She left a month's supply in his room! I brought the pills to the manager and described the situation. He should have fired this nurse on the spot, but he just laughed with her and said something like “well, she stepped, who doesn’t happen to anyone.” I quit there a week later.”

“Many years ago I worked at a day program for people with special needs. On Wednesdays, it was classic movie day at the local theater, and we accepted clients. I only had one client, meaning I worked one-on-one with him. My immediate boss had 3 people, and his deputy had four. The deputy lost one of her boyfriends and didn't realize it until the end of the movie when we were counting clients. Long story short, I was fired and my boss was fired. But the one whose duty it was to look after him kept her job. However, the client was fine and was found a kilometer further down the road and asked a police officer to help him find his way home.”

“The supervisor left the safe open. He definitely should have been fired for this, but his problem was overshadowed by the fact that one of the idiot employees stole 50 thousand and was on the run for more than half a day.”

“I worked for a small mapping company. Our goal when we started was to add rivers and lakes on top of satellite imagery/topographic maps. It was a summer job while I was in college. Both me and the guy who worked next to me were 19-20 years old. It was very monotonous and tedious work. We weren't really allowed to talk while we worked, so for the most part we just sat at our own computers. Sometimes they corresponded. Towards the end of the summer, when it was time to go back to school, my colleague went crazy. He simply started creating line drawings using GIS software and giving them names. He drew Santa and his reindeer. I came up with half a dozen lakes with a bunch of stupid names, like "Milk Lake was a bad choice." I didn't tell anyone what he did and I'm wondering what the QA people think about it. If they knew about his tricks, he would definitely be fired.”

“I should have been fired when I came to work drunk every day. I still don't know how I got away with it. Someone knew for sure. Constant fumes and uneven gait - how can you hide them? But management liked me, so no one said anything. Today I miss this job, but I don’t miss being drunk 24/7.”
