How the film "Terminator 2" was filmed: rare and archival footage (14 photos)
James Cameron has directed many popular and box-office films. Moreover, of the three most Oscar-winning films, two films were directed by James Cameron (“Titanic” and “Avatar”). But today we will talk about how the popular action movie “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” was filmed.
Actor Robert Patrick played the main antagonist of the film, namely the liquid metal robot T-1000. But in the necessary places, Robert was replaced by his puppet double.
By the way, Robert Patrick himself trained hard for this role and trained a lot to run fast to match his character.
Naturally, Arnold Schwarzenegger also had his artificial double, who played the main role, namely the T-800 Terminator himself.
James Cameron shows how to properly pierce Sarah Connor's shoulder. Of course, the pin does not pass through the actress, since it consists of two parts, one of which is located at the back, and the second is put on the finger.
Despite the fact that viewers saw a naked Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger did not expose his soft spot. In scenes from behind he was played by a stunt double, and in the bar he wore breeches. By the way, at the time of filming, a random visitor came in and was quite surprised to see a half-naked man in the bar.
When the “dying” T-1000 in the lava makes heart-rending screams, we hear not the voice of Robert Patrick, but the voice of James Cameron himself. The director decided that he would be the one to show what the screams of a dying liquid metal robot should look like, since he has the most unpleasant voice.
James Cameron tried to use as little graphics and computer effects as possible, so even in the scene with the two Sarahs there were no effects. The second Sarah was played by the twin sister of actress Linda Hamilton - Leslie.
Also, two twin brothers played guards in a psychiatric hospital. One of them played the original, and the second turned into a T-1000 guard.
As already noted, James Cameron preferred more natural effects than computer ones, so even in the scene where the frozen T-1000 fell into pieces, a disabled person without limbs with special prosthetics was involved.
It was clear that Schwarzenegger would play the good Terminator in the second part of the film even before filming began, as Arnold said that he would no longer play villains in films.
The actor for the role of John Conor was accidentally found in a gaming club, where he played slot machines with great passion. It’s just that he caused the most trouble. Firstly, during the filming of the film, the actor grew very quickly, and secondly, his voice suddenly began to break, which is why he had to be re-voiced after filming ended. But most importantly, he also managed to escape from filming to play slot machines.
The Terminator's T-800 machine gun was so heavy that no one except Schwarzenegger himself could lift it alone.
