Children's programs should entertain the child, have fun, possibly teach something and give a little rest to the child's parents. However, the heroes of our selection will prove that leaving your child alone with a children's show, not at all interested in what he is watching, is a bad idea.

No, these are not characters from strange art-house horror films, but heroes from very real shows aimed at an audience of children.

Ratafak Plakhta

Ratafak Plachta is a character in the children's puppet show "Slniečko", produced by Czechoslovak Television between 1980 and 1994. This life-size doll consists of a large blanket (big enough to fit two adults) with arms and a small strange head on a very long neck. The character's name can be translated as "curious blanket." Despite his peculiar appearance, the character himself was kind and funny and was genuinely liked by children who grew up watching the show. And the audience, completely unfamiliar with Czechoslovak television of those years, is led, if not horrified, then bewildered, by the dear good-natured Ratafak Plachta.

Nobody

The character Nobody or Nobody is the creation of American puppeteer Jim Henson. It consists of one thread that forms the mouth, two more threads that form the eyes, and an expressive, alarming voice that gives the viewer goosebumps. He appeared in a couple of experimental short films and was little known. Until he got into one of the episodes of the very popular American TV show Sesame Street. There, this minimalistic face flying against a black background taught small spectators mental arithmetic for a minute. The action was accompanied by disturbing sound effects. Nobody else appeared on Sesame Street. But this episode was enough to give the kids who watched it nightmares.

Karbonkel

Karbonkel is a villain from the Dutch children's show Ik Mik Loreland. The show was supposed to teach children to read. And everything would be fine if Karbonkel didn’t scare the little viewers too much. Due to complaints, the character's appearance had to be changed.

Vizbit

Wizbit is the main character of the British educational children's show Wizbit. He is an alien wizard hat who has come to Earth to solve puzzles. The program featured a very strange, disturbing musical accompaniment. Separately, it is necessary to note the voice of the main character. This squeaky, squeaky something, combined with a strange appearance, leaves an indelible impression.

Mister Nosybonk

Mr. Nosybonk is the hero of the British children's educational program Jigsaw. Nosibonk was conceived as a comedic character, but this is not what young viewers remember him for. The creator of the series “Black Mirror” Charlie Brooker said that this long-nosed man with a maniacal smile visited him many times in his dreams when Charlie was still a child.

Characters from Peppermint Park

Peppermint Park is a British show with doll characters that have a specific design, which gives the show a creepy feel. Particularly disturbing is a moment in one episode of the show where a doll named Ernie sings a song about the letter M.

Hare Hartley Hare

The British children's program Pipkins talks about a group of animals who help everyone around them with any problems. However, the dolls themselves are quite creepy. Hartley Hare's hare actually looks more like the creation of a taxidermist.

A pineapple

The title of the program is “Téléfrançais!” It would be most correct to translate it as “Tele-French!” This is a Canadian show in French, designed to teach young viewers the French language. One of the main characters is a pineapple, which frightened the children watching the program.

Walrus

Pingu is an Anglo-Swiss claymation animated series starring penguins. The cartoon is as harmless as possible. However, one episode was banned from showing because it was too scary for viewers. The main antagonist of this banned series was a creepily laughing walrus who eats everything he sees.

Morra

Morra is an evil character in the Moomin world created by Tove Jansson. This creature is supposed to be scary, but the Japanese animators clearly overdid it. In the Japanese animated series adaptation of the Moomins, Morra frightens not only with her mystery, but also with her eerie guttural roar.
