Vision for most living beings is the most important sense. If problems begin with it, then part of its functions are taken over by the other senses. But there are completely blind creatures in nature who, even without this option, feel if not better, then certainly no worse than sighted people.

Water hermit

The Brazilian blind characid is a seemingly ordinary fish that lives in the reservoirs of caves in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. She has no visual organs. And the main problem in the life of this species is the lowering of the groundwater level, and not predators or food, which they are unable to obtain without eyes.

Natural paradox

Eiselt's worm is a little-studied creature. But there is some information about the representative of the Amazon basin. The creature, which looks like a raw sausage, lives well without eyes and without lungs, but it can boast of unique muscles in the head area.

Mystical ascetic

Why carry your eyes around if you don’t need them in life? The Texas blind salamander thought something like this during evolution. And in the end, she got rid of the unnecessary organ, safely hiding it in the depths of the skin. The salamander copes well with searching for food by touch (snails are not particularly fast, so there are no problems), and it looks for breeding partners by smell.

Cave Dweller

The tiny cave wolf spider, no more than 2 centimeters long, is endemic to the Hawaiian island of Kauai. The baby does not leave his caves, because they contain everything a little mole rat needs for a comfortable life.

Human fish

The European Proteus has this nickname due to the similarity of the color of its carcass to human skin. Strictly speaking, this is an amphibian that can live up to 70 or even more years, and is not completely blind. The tail has eyes, but they are embedded deep under the skin and do not react to light.

Transparent unique

The eyeless troglobite shrimp lives in cave ponds in Kentucky. Due to the lack of pigment, it is almost transparent and looks like a ghost. The shrimp does not leave the caves, since everything it needs for nutrition and life - mushrooms, algae, small organic matter - is contained in sediments washed into the cave by groundwater.

Miracle of the Planet

A member of the mole family, the star-nosed mole (also known as the star-nosed mole) is truly unique. This completely contented and happy creature perceives the world through tentacles located on its star-shaped muzzle, which gives the animal a resemblance to an alien monster. These growths are mega-sensitive: the organ consists of more than 100 thousand nerve endings. Physically, the starfish has eyes, they are just tiny, and the animal does not use them.
