There are enough films in the world about maniacs and individuals of various levels of psychopathy. Based on real events, or not. Most often, men act as such people. But not always.

Why are mentally unstable women in movies so much more frightening than men? Probably because girls are usually associated with something soft, defenseless and tender. However, mental disorder has no gender. They, just like men, may be born unhealthy, or they may become so under the influence of external circumstances. There are examples of such women in cinema.

"Solstice"

Actress Florence Pugh, who played in this film, perfectly conveyed how a person breaks under the influence of external factors. A girl who experienced the collective suicide of all her loved ones could not find support from her boyfriend. They, together with their friends, go to the Swedish community to, instead of a nice holiday, see terrible and bloody rituals where people are killed every day.

The heroine of the film has to go through hell and understand that the evil, in fact, does not lie in the community.

TV series "Rookie" ("Rookie")

The series is about a man who, at the age of 40, decided to make a drastic change in his life and went to work as a cop for the Los Angeles police. In one of the cases, he meets a woman who mercilessly killed, dismembered and tortured her victims.

Actress Annie Wersching embodied in her character Rosalind an image a little reminiscent of Hannibal Lecter - smart, calculating, skillfully manipulating her victims and the police. She even enjoys the fact that people are shocked by her actions.

Just looking at her makes you feel uneasy.

"Gone Girl"

Rosamund Pike brilliantly played her character - the beautiful sociopath Amy, who will stop at nothing to continue her monstrous game, started on her wedding anniversary.

Her character is calculating, cold-blooded, cynical and extremely calm. It gives you goosebumps almost from the very beginning.

"Monster"

The film is based on the events that unfolded in the 90s on the roads of Florida. In recent history, there have been fewer than four dozen female serial killers. However, the story of prostitute Aileen Wuornos, who killed six drivers who tried to rape her, is scary as hell.

In the film, it is also worth paying attention to the work of Charlize Theron, an obviously beautiful woman who is unrecognizable in the film. Excellent work on the role, but it still becomes uneasy.

"Misery"

A famous writer goes to a secluded place to finish his novel in peace and quiet. He gets into an accident and if it weren’t for a caring local resident, he would simply die, covered in snow and in an overturned car. Nurse Annie saves him and it just so happens that she turns out to be a fan of his talent...

Kathy Bates played the crazy fan so reliably that just the sight of her is already scary. Her emotional transitions from caring to furious obsession are a real swing. It is completely impossible to predict her actions. And that's what scares me the most.

"Flying over Cuckoo's Nest"

Canon villain. One of the creepiest women in world cinema in the film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Ken Kesey. Actress Louise Fletcher, who played Nurse Ratched, brilliantly played a psychopath who finds herself in the right place: she can execute, she can have mercy, she can drive a patient to suicide, perform a lobotomy on him.

Ratched has become the personification of one of the most terrible types of sociopath - one who has seized power.
