10 films and TV series whose names became popular and began to be used in everyday life (12 photos)
Sometimes it seems to us that we live in a real world, which is quite tangibly separated from the world of cinema and other fiction. However, in fact, there is a considerable possibility that we are in the matrix, surrounded by fantastic beasts and other gremlins, and want to go to Narnia, while either the hunger games or the game of thrones are happening around us - all within one endless Groundhog Day.
You understand perfectly well what we are talking about, right? This is how we remember some movie titles that have become phraseological units and are used in everyday speech. Some of them first appeared not in films, but, for example, in books, but they gained mass popularity precisely after the release of films.
Fantastic Beasts
The Harry Potter spin-off introduced an expression to the people that can be used to denote everything alien and incomprehensible, for example, unknown animals - both real and fictional - that do not belong to JK Rowling’s universe.
However, the word “creatures” has significantly expanded the scope of its use. Therefore, it is quite often applied to employees of some bureaucratic departments, where they cannot give you some kind of certificate and are constantly forced to stand in queues. The epithet “fantastic” in this case also fits perfectly, since: “This is simply unthinkable!” - you complain in this line.
Terminator
The general name for the cyborg killers from the films of the series of the same name. The image of Terminator Arnold Schwarzenegger is especially strongly imprinted in the popular consciousness. Huge, dangerous, intimidating, emotionless, extremely purposeful, unstoppable and absolutely incapable of negotiation. If there is such a character in your life, even with one of these qualities, then you probably at least once (at least in your thoughts) called him a terminator.
Gremlins
The villainous creatures from the 1984 film have such a phonetically successful name that they can be used to refer to all the unpleasant creatures whose real name you have forgotten. But since the film is good, the creatures you name are usually chaotic, creepy, but still close to the soul. For example, if you have cats, then you know very well how cute Gizmo can turn into a Gremlin. And you know everything about feeding after midnight.
Groundhog Day
Yes, this is our every day! In the 1993 film, our lives were shown too literally - Bill Murray's character was stuck in the same day, but noticed this because, according to the plot, he was on a business trip. But would we have noticed?
One of the most existential concepts that came to us from cinema. And it is somewhat related to the following.
Matrix
So we live in it! The idea that our whole life is an imitation of life, which is organized by certain forces, has probably crossed your mind. Especially when you notice the popular “matrix glitches” on the Internet. But Morpheus is somehow in no hurry to find us.
But if we do not live in the matrix, then certainly in...
The Truman Show
The thought that your life is a TV show and everyone around you is just pretending may also have occurred to you. Sometimes it seems that it cannot be any other way - after all, how else could several events beyond your control coincide so much?! It's obvious that the writers of your show are trying to move the plot along to keep the audience (and you!) from getting bored.
Rambo
Terminator from the human world. Also stubborn and unstoppable, but still there are nuances. For example, the presence of emotions and therefore some recklessness. Such a person can solve all the problems alone, but he doesn’t go too far.
Santa Barbara
If you become a witness to someone's long showdown (most often with a romantic slant), to which there is no end in sight, with a showdown, constantly flaring up and receding tension and the emergence of new details, then what else can you call it? Every time you think to yourself: “Oooh, a new episode of Santa Barbara has begun!”
Sometimes "Santa Barbara" can devolve into "Game of Thrones" - a grittier, more radical version.
The Addams Family
It's all those weird people (in groups) that make you a little confused. And if they are relatives to each other, then it’s definitely them!
However, be careful! Chances are, in the eyes of other people, you and your friends or family are the Addams Family.
The Hunger Games
They can flare up in any organization whose employees somehow compete with each other. And if we are talking about representatives of different districts... that is, offices, then their competition, for example, for clients can be completely imagined with metaphorical bows in their hands.
And again: a more manipulative and cunning, but no less bloodthirsty version of The Hunger Games may turn out to be Game of Thrones.
Narnia
"The Chronicles of Narnia", having become a film, finally told the mass audience where all their lost things were kept. They're in Narnia! And everyone also has such a closed place where things accumulate, where it’s scary to even look, because it’s probably been there for a long time!
What other similar movie expressions have become part of your life? Toughie? A Nightmare on Elm Street?? Dumb and Dumber???
