We are accustomed to the way we see the world around us, and it does not even occur to us that someone might see it differently. Of course, theoretically, we understand that animals have slightly different vision, but not everyone knows what its features are. In this post, you will find out how different animals see, according to scientists.

1. Snakes

Snakes have two types of vision: day vision, which is based on movement, and night vision, which is based on heat. So, if their potential “lunch” remains motionless during the day, the snake will not see anything.

2. Mouse

Rodents see well up close, but if an object is far away, they will only see it if it moves. For example, a rodent will notice a sudden movement of a hand even at a distance of 10-15 meters and quickly run away, but will not see a motionless person until he is literally in front of his nose.

3. Fly

In all insects with compound eyes, visual acuity directly depends on the number of facets (from 3,000 to 25,000 in different insects). For example, a fly has about 4000 facets in its eyes, but despite this, it sees much worse than a person. For her, the world consists of “pixels”.

4. Butterflies and bees

In general, butterflies do not see very well, but they perceive ultraviolet light, which is invisible to humans, very well. Bees can do the same.

5. Blackbirds

The thrush's eyes work like binoculars. In addition, it can simultaneously focus on both potential food and an approaching predator.

6. Eagle

Birds of prey are believed to have the sharpest eyesight. And the leader among them, of course, is the eagle. Not only can he see at a great distance, but he also perceives more colors than a human. The eagle can focus on two different objects at the same time.

7. Frog

Frogs only see moving objects. In addition, if the object is small, the frog will try to grab it, and if it is large, it will run away. Crustaceans also have a similar vision system that responds to movement.

8. Chameleon

The chameleon has some of the strangest eyes in the world. At the same time, he can see both what is happening in front of him and what is happening behind him. And all thanks to the fact that their eyes can rotate independently of each other.

9. Horse

The horse sees the world in black and white. What it lacks in color, it makes up for in more shades of gray—much more than a human can discern. Because horses' eyes are far apart, they see two different "halves" of the world.

10. Cow

You will be surprised, but grass is not green for cows. In general, they see everything in orange and red colors, so for them the world of colors is very limited.

11. Snail

Scientists are still debating whether snails see and how good their vision is. Some suggest that these mollusks are generally blind. Others believe that the snail can see up close and can see light and shadow from afar.

12. Spider

Most spiders have pretty poor vision. But jumping spiders are a happy exception. In general, their vision is perfect, and their side eyes help them understand what is happening next door and even behind them.
