Some parents dream of naming their child some unusual name. While some options sound good and even creative, others cause complete bewilderment. Sometimes, in the process of coming up with a suitable name, parents are inspired not only by their own ideas and national traditions, but also by films, comic book characters, celebrities and even food.





The law of many countries tries to protect their newborn citizens from the wild imagination of mothers and fathers by creating lists of prohibited names. Of course, the criteria for each state are different. Some people ban frankly stupid and absurd names; in other cases, quite ordinary options are banned, which at first glance do not raise any questions at all.

Portugal



In Portugal it is not acceptable to use short forms of names. Also, a person's name must accurately reflect their gender. The names Rihanna, Nirvana, Mona Lisa, Viking, Olaf, Marx, Kennedy, Heidi, Dmitry, Logan, Pablo are strictly prohibited.

France





Like many countries, France has rules that limit the names parents can give their children. Nutella, Mini Cooper, Manhattan, Prince William, Babar, and Strawberry are prohibited.

Sweden



You should think carefully before naming your newborn in Sweden. While you are not allowed to name your child Superman, Veranda, Metallica, IKEA or Elvis.

Mexico



If you want to name your child Facebook, Rambo, Batman, Hermione, Harry Potter, Bond, Rocky, Pocahontas, Terminator, Twitter, Edward or Burger King, while in Mexico, you will have to abandon your decision, because the country's civil registry will clearly not approve his. In total, the list includes about 60 names.

Saudi Arabia



The laws of the country prohibit calling children by foreign names, as well as those that may violate national traditions. In Saudi Arabia during the day you won’t find people with the names Bayan, Angel, Rama, Alice, Linda, Maya, Queen, Ben.

Germany



In Germany, the names of items or products are not allowed - Fanta, Whiskey, Yogurt. The child cannot be named after any fictional or historical figure - Lenin, Superman. Any gender-neutral names are also prohibited.

Iceland



The country has some of the strictest naming laws in the world, and parents must choose from a pre-approved list. If someone needs a name that is not on the list, they must apply for permission. Names that will definitely not be approved: Lucifer, Ariel, Lady, Zelda, Caroline, Arian, Cesar, Ezra, Duncan, Enrique, Ludwig.

New Zealand



In this country, a huge number of names have been censored over the past decade. Here you definitely won’t name the child Messiah, Knight, Saint, Bishop, Queen Victoria, Princess.

Switzerland



In Switzerland, as in some other countries, the name must be approved by the citizen registration department. The names Cain, Judas, Brooklyn, Chanel, Mercedes, Paris are strictly not considered.

Italy



The Italians will not allow you to name your child Benito, Moby Dick, The Great Gatsby, IKEA, Dracula, Joey Tribbiani, Walter White.
