So the yantine acquired blue-violet shades so as not to stand out against the background of the sea surface.

To successfully navigate the tropical seas, it is not enough to simply be invisible. You need to be able to stay afloat. To do this, Yanita dropped the ballast and acquired a lightweight sink. Its walls are much thinner than those of other sea snails, which is why it was called brittle. But still, the main advantage of any pirate is his ship. How can you build it if all you have is one leg? The mollusk came out of the situation in an original way: he builds a raft of bubbles!

First, the snail takes in air from the surface using the propodium, the front part of the leg. And then the foam party begins! The one-legged pirate "blows" bubbles and attaches them to the back of his body. The substance through which yantina passes trapped air consists of amphiphilic mucins and chitin. The first substance bubbles like soap, the second strengthens the walls of the structure, forming a durable film.

It takes the snail about a minute to create one such bubble. Throughout her life, Yantina builds her improvised boat to a size that is comfortable for herself. After all, if the raft crashes, the captain will go to the bottom and drown. There is not enough air in the depths to create a new vessel.

The snail looks small and harmless, no more than 4 centimeters in size. But in reality, the mollusk became a nightmare for all surface inhabitants. The merciless predator preys on other snails, water striders and jellyfish. But Yantina's favorite delicacy is Portuguese man-of-war. Seeing the victim, the snail boards the jellyfish - it clings to the underside, eating away the tastiest morsels.

From birth, all yantines are males. But the moment the mollusk decides to have offspring, it fertilizes itself and becomes a female! The captain produces 2.5 million eggs. She stores them on her ship until the veliger larvae hatch. Afterwards, the sailor mother lets her children go on a free voyage, where new pirate adventures await them.
