New Year is coming, which means it's time to buy tangerines, prepare Olivier salad and, of course, watch good old films about New Year and Christmas.

Home Alone (1990)

Naturally, such a selection is simply not possible without the film “Home Alone” (1990). According to the plot of the film, parents accidentally forget their youngest son Kevin at home, and they fly off to celebrate Christmas in Paris.

At this very time, two bandits are going to rob all the houses in the area, thinking that everyone has gone to other cities and countries for the holidays. And now Kevin has to do everything to protect his home from bandits using the traps he has set.

Without a doubt, this film is one of the most popular Christmas comedies. This iconic film remains relevant even after more than 30 years.

Home Alone 2 (1992)

After the success of the first part of the film, the release of the second part was a matter of time. And two years later, the long-awaited sequel to the film “Home Alone” was released, where all the main characters returned to their roles.

In the story, the McCallister family goes to Florida to celebrate Christmas, and it would seem that now the parents will keep an eye on Kevin so as not to lose him like last time.

But this time too, everything does not go according to plan. Due to his haste, Kevin gets on the wrong plane, and instead of Florida he goes to New York, where he is again left all alone. To save himself, he checks into the expensive Plaza Hotel using his father's credit card. And it would seem that he only needs to wait until his parents come for him. But everything doesn’t go as we would like, because at this very time the same bandits that Kevin confronted last year end up in New York.

Despite the fact that the film also had some success, many accused it of being second-rate, because if you judge it that way, it is not much different from the original film. Even the jokes, opposition to bandits and plot twists are absolutely the same. But this, of course, does not mean that the film is bad.

Love Actually (2003)

The British film Love Actually, released in 2003, instantly gained cult status. And many viewers also noted that their New Year holidays would not be complete without watching this film.

There is no single plot in the film, since the film is essentially a collection of individual stories, some of which intersect with each other. But be that as it may, each of the plots in one way or another concerns love and friendship.

Family Man (2000)

The film “The Family Man,” starring Nicolas Cage, tells the story of successful businessman Jack Campbell, who once flew to London for an internship, sacrificing his relationship with his girlfriend. After 13 years, he has become a successful businessman with a cold personality who demands that his employees work on holidays.

One day, Jack finds himself in a strange situation with a black boy in a Chinese store, and the next morning Jack wakes up in another house, and on his chest lies his former lover Kate, whom he once left for his career.

But this is not the most important thing. As it turned out, Jack somehow miraculously ended up in an alternative reality, where he chose Kate instead of a career. And now he has his own family with children and a dog, but does not have the career that he spent 13 years building. A little taken aback, Jack realizes that he is no longer a successful businessman, but an ordinary family man.

Die Hard (1998)

Despite the fact that the film "Die Hard" starring Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman is an action movie, many men note that it is one of the best films that are somehow associated with Christmas.

On Christmas Eve, police officer John McClane travels to New York to reconcile with his wife. John goes to a skyscraper where a Christmas party is taking place, in which his wife is involved. There's just one problem. This very party is interrupted by terrorists led by Hans Gruber. And now John McClane has to stop the criminals to save his wife and other hostages.

Strongman Santa Claus (1996)

Strongman Santa Claus is an American family Christmas film starring Hulk Hogan.

In the story, millionaire Blake Thorne, who produces sports and dietary nutrition, leads a riotous lifestyle. One day, while playing paintball with friends on the busy streets, Blake begins to be pursued by the police. And to hide from them, the millionaire dresses up as Santa Claus.

But when Blake hits his head hard, he loses his memory and is led to believe that he is the real Santa Claus.

At this very time, another millionaire, Abner Frost, is eager to take over a local orphanage, under which there are powerful energy crystals. But the same Santa Claus comes to the aid of the children, who does everything possible to prevent the children from being evicted from the orphanage.

A Gift for Christmas (1996)

"The Present for Christmas" is an American family Christmas film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

According to the plot, the father of the family, Howard Langston, is always so busy that he is constantly late for various family holidays. On the other hand, a simple postman Myron Larabee. The fates of these two men intersect when they try to buy the super popular Turbo Man toy for their children. The only problem is that all these toys have already sold out, and there are only a few hours left until Christmas.

But suddenly the store announces a competition, the winner of which will receive that very treasured toy as a prize. Which of the heroes will get the treasured toy? You will find out the answer by watching this family film.

A New Christmas Tale (1988)

I think many of you know the famous story by Charles Dickens "A Christmas Carol" about the miserly moneylender Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited by the three spirits of Christmas, who changes his life.

This story has been filmed many times, but I would like to focus on the film “A New Christmas Tale” (1988) with Bill Murray in the title role.

The plot centers on successful TV mogul Frank Cross, who is interested in nothing but money. But one day the three spirits of Christmas appear to him in the form of a crazy taxi driver, a fairy and death. And it is thanks to them that Frank rethinks his life. Quite an interesting interpretation of the popular Dickens story. I recommend viewing.

Family for Rent (1997)

Sam Field is a successful businessman who lives life to the fullest, changing women like gloves. He is not responsible to anyone, since he has no family. And he likes it.

But one day a wealthy buyer of Sam’s company appears on the horizon, who considers him an exemplary family man. In order not to scare off the client, Sam decides to start a fake family, hiring a woman and some boy for this role. But all the castings are unsuccessful and Sam loses hope of making a big deal, until a seven-year-old girl runs into his house, whose mother, as it turns out, works in Sam’s company and is raising the child alone.

Bad Santa (2003)

One can hardly call the film “Bad Santa” a family comedy, since due to the abundance of jokes below the belt, the film was rated R. Nevertheless, the film turned out to be very good. But still, it’s better not to watch this film with children.

In the story, an alcoholic, loser and criminal named Willie and his short partner Charlie get a job as Santa Claus and an elf in a store. But they do this not at all to please the children, but to rob this very store right on Christmas Eve.

At the same time, Willie meets a strange, plump boy named Terman Merman, who, as it turns out, lives with his crazy grandmother, since his mother died and his father is serving time in prison. Willie decides to take advantage of the situation and moves into Terman's house. But over time, communication with the boy changes Willie for the better and awakens positive qualities in him.

Gremlins (1984)

Naturally, I couldn’t help but remember the cult film “Gremlins”, released back in 1984.

In the story, a man buys a strange furry animal called Mogwai in the neighborhood and gives this pet to his son Billy. True, caring for this animal is not so simple, since the mogwai cannot be fed after midnight, water should not be poured on it, and it must also be kept away from sources of bright light.

But Billy accidentally spills water on the Mogwai, causing him to “give birth” to several more of the same creatures. But this turned out to be not the worst thing, because Billy accidentally feeds the animals after midnight, which is why they turn into terrible monsters - gremlins.

Naturally, there are many more films about New Year and Christmas. But in this article I wanted to highlight only those paintings that evoke special feelings of nostalgia in me. And you write in the comments your selections of New Year's foreign paintings that you consider the most interesting.
