Even great directors fail. I suggest you familiarize yourself with the list of films from the filmography of current directors who received the lowest scores from viewers.

Almost all of the best modern directors have in their track record a rogue film that audiences and critics did not accept.

There are practically no films in the selection whose failure is not entirely the director’s fault, as is the case with David Lynch’s Dune or David Fincher’s Alien 3. It's more likely that the producers made a mess there.

So, here are several fiasco films by brilliant acting directors. This is clearly not why we will remember them.

A Life Less Common (1997)

Director: Danny Boyle (“Trainspotting”, “The Beach”, “28 Days Later”, “Slumdog Millionaire”, “127 Hours”).

IMDb: 6.3.

Long live Caesar! (2016)

Directors: Ethan Coen and Joel Coen (Fargo, The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men).

IMDb: 6.3.

Do you know what the cast was in this film? Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton, Channing Tatum, Frances McDormand and Jonah Hill. What could go wrong?

Dark Shadows (2012)

Director: Tim Burton (“Beetlejuice”, “Edward Scissorhands”, “Batman” (1989), “Sleepy Hollow”, “Big Fish” and several more successful films with Johnny Depp).

Weight of Water (2000)

Kathryn Bigelow, by the way, is the first woman to win an Oscar for directing. For the film “The Hurt Locker” (2008).

1941 (1979)

Director: Steven Spielberg (it’s impossible to list everything, but Jaws, Indiana Jones films, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Schindler’s List, Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me If You Can, Lincoln "and a dozen more films that are considered cinema classics).

IMDb: 5.8.

A comedy film about World War II is already an unusual approach. Despite the weakest ratings of Spielberg's career, the film still received three Oscar nominations. This is how he does it?

Gemini Man (2019)

Director: Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain, Sense and Sensibility, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Life of Pi).

IMDb: 5.7.

Witches (2020)

Director: Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future trilogy, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Forrest Gump, Cast Away).

IMDb: 5.3.

Advisor (2013)

Director: Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, The Martian, The Last Duel).

Do you know who starred in this failed film? Not just Brad Pitt and Muckle Fassbender. Besides them, there are Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz and Natalie Dormer.
